Why I Do This: The Passion Behind Everything I Build

I didn’t find my passion in a classroom or a boardroom. I found it at the lowest point of my life.

Where it started

I grew up in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. A small town up north, where most people’s paths are drawn for them early. At 24, I packed up and moved to Long Beach, California to start a new life.

It didn’t go the way I planned. Not long after I got here, I ended up homeless.

I won’t dress that up. It was hard. It strips you down to nothing and makes you question who you are. But it also taught me something I’ve never forgotten: most people aren’t stuck because they lack talent. They’re stuck because they lack the tools, the resources, and someone to show them the way.

The turning point

What changed my life was a program. It didn’t hand me a new life. It handed me the tools to build one: structure, resources, and people who believed I could do more than survive.

I took those tools and I used them. I rebuilt, one step at a time. I worked as a security guard, and even then I kept helping people change their lives, because I knew what was possible. From there I started Sterling Antonio, my clothing brand, and Techtiply, my tech company.

None of that happens without someone first investing in me.

My passion, in one sentence

I help people transform their lives the way I was given the chance to transform mine.

That’s it. Everything I build — the programs, the books, the events, the brand — comes back to that one idea.

Why it matters so much

Because the opportunity is real, and it’s right in front of you. There are more ways to build income today than ever before: online business, AI and new technology, turning a skill you already have into money. But an opportunity means nothing if nobody shows you how to use it. I’ve watched too many capable people walk right past the door because no one pointed it out.

Because the 9-to-5 isn’t the only option. Most of the people I meet are serious, hard-working, and tired. Tired of trading their best hours for someone else’s dream. They’re not dreamers. They’re ready. They just need a plan they can actually follow.

Because change spreads. When one person turns their life around, it doesn’t stop with them. Their family sees it. Their friends see it. Their kids see it. One changed life creates a ripple, and that’s how whole communities rise. It’s the reason I wrote Leading with a Ripple Effect.

Because I owe it. Somebody gave me a hand when I had nothing. Paying that forward isn’t a marketing line for me. It’s a debt I’m proud to keep paying.

What paying it forward looks like

This isn’t just talk. It shows up in how I live and how I run my business:

  • I support people coming out of homelessness, and the program that helped me.
  • I mentor young people for free.
  • Part of what I earn from Sterling Antonio, my books, and my programs goes back to causes that matter.
  • I volunteer right here in Long Beach.

When you work with me, read one of my books, or wear the brand, you’re part of that too.

What I want for you

I’m not here to sell you a fantasy. I’m here to hand you the same thing that was handed to me: real tools, real resources, and a clear next step.

If you’re sick and tired of being sick and tired — if you know there’s more for you and you’re ready to do the work — you’re exactly who I built this for.

Where you are right now is not where you have to stay. I’m living proof of that.
