Business coach reviewing handwritten notes at a desk beside a laptop, considering a founder's assessment

The Business That Failed Taught Me Everything

I didn’t come to this work because I had everything figured out. I came to it because I didn’t.

My first business failed. It didn’t fail dramatically or overnight. It failed slowly, the way most businesses do: one avoided decision at a time, one missing system at a time, one quarter of “next quarter will be different” after another.

For a while, I told myself the story most founders tell. The timing was wrong. The market shifted. I didn’t have the right people. Some of that was true. None of it was the real reason.

The real reason was me. I was building without a model. I was working hard on the wrong things, reacting instead of deciding, and confusing activity with progress. I had ambition. I didn’t have a framework.

The rebuild

Rebuilding forced me to do what I’d skipped the first time. I studied how people who had built lasting businesses actually operated. I didn’t study their tactics. I studied their thinking: how they made decisions, what standards they refused to lower, what they said no to.

What I found changed everything. Their success wasn’t mysterious. It followed patterns. The same principles showed up again and again, across industries and decades. Clear standards. Deliberate decisions. Consistency long after it stopped being exciting.

That meant success wasn’t reserved for the gifted or the lucky. It could be learned.

I applied what I learned, and the second time, it held.

Why I chose to help others

Once I understood that success is learnable, I couldn’t unsee how many capable founders were stuck exactly where I had been. They were talented and driven, and they were grinding without a model, repeating mistakes that had already been solved.

That felt like a waste I could do something about.

I don’t coach from theory. I coach from the failure I lived through and the rebuild that followed. When a founder tells me they’re stuck, I usually know why, because I was there.

What I believe

Success is not a personality trait. It’s a set of decisions, standards, and habits, and every one of them can be learned.

That belief sits under everything I do. It’s why I wrote The Secret to Their Success. It’s why I keep Mastery to six clients at a time. The work is too specific to do at scale.

If you’re where I was

You don’t need more motivation. You need a model, and someone who will tell you the truth about where you’re going wrong.

That’s the work. If you’re ready for it, book a call.
